Professor Aisling McMahon appointed as member of the Irish National Research Ethics Committee for Clinical Trials

In April 2024, Professor Aisling McMahon was appointed by the Minister for Health as a member of the Irish National Research Ethics Committee for Clinical Trials which reviews ethics applications related to Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products in Ireland.

Professor McMahon will sit on NREC CT-A, one of four committees examining applications and ethics considerations surrounding Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products in Ireland.

Professor Aisling McMahon is a Professor of Law in the School of Law and Criminology, Maynooth University whose work focuses primarily on health law and intellectual property rights as they pertain to health-technologies. She is particularly interested in the role of laws in the regulation of emerging health technologies.

On her appointment Aisling said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as a member of the National Research Ethics Committee for Clinical Trials (CT-A) in Ireland. My research within health law and regulatory contexts examines the importance of legal and ethical frameworks as part of a broader system to facilitate the development of new safe and effective health-technologies in a manner that is responsive to ethical considerations that can arise. I very much look forward to contributing to this role.”
