PatentsInHumans PI Professor Aisling McMahon awarded Maynooth University Mid-Career Research Achievement Award!

PatentsInHumans Principal Investigator Professor Aisling McMahon was recently awarded Maynooth University’s 2024 Mid-Career Research Achievement Award. The Maynooth University Mid-Career Research Award acknowledges academic staff who have established themselves as significant contributors to their field. It honors those who, at the mid-point of their career, have demonstrated sustained excellence in research, making impactful contributions that advance knowledge and understanding.

Many congratulations also to the School of Law and Criminology’s, Dr Bríd Ní Ghráinne  awarded the Early Career Research Achievement Award and Dr Ian Marder awarded the Excellence in Research Outputs Award!

Aisling’s research focuses on intellectual property and health law. She leads the ERC PatentsInHumans project (Principal Investigator).  Alongside this, she is the Principal Investigator of the IRC New Foundations funded, ‘Advanced Cancer Care: Enhancing Systems and Structures to Deliver In-House Personalised Therapies for Patients via the Hospital Exemption’ (ACCESS) project run in conjunction with Breakthrough Cancer Research. The ACCESS project examines the hospital exemption regulatory pathway for production of advanced therapy medicinal products for patients with unmet needs. She previously led an IRC New Foundations funded project on access and provision of CAR-T therapies. She is regularly invited to participate at national/international policy events on emerging health-technologies, including recent events held by the World Health Organization, US National Academy of Sciences, Nuffield Council of Bioethics and Royal Society.  In 2024, she was appointed as a member on the international editorial advisory boards of Medical Law Review and Legal Studies. In April 2024, she was appointed as a member of the National Research Ethics Committee for Clinical Trials in Ireland.
